The 2026 Puyallup Rodeo produced shared titles, breakout wins and a high-pressure playoff finish that sent several leading contenders toward the Governor’s Cup with fresh momentum.
A championship Sunday built for pressure
Puyallup’s playoff format brought 24 athletes into two opening pools before reducing the field to eight for championship Sunday. Four advanced from the semifinal stage into a shootout, creating a short, unforgiving finish where one ride or run could change the season.
The result was a list of champions that mixed established world-title winners with athletes still strengthening their positions in the standings. With the regular-season deadline approaching, the money carried consequences well beyond the victory lap.
Who won at Puyallup?
- Bareback riding: Jess Pope and Keenan Hayes shared the championship after matching top-level performances.
- Steer wrestling: Jesse Brown earned the final-round payday and tightened the race near the top of the world standings.
- Team roping: James Arviso and Levi Lord tied Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira for the title.
- Saddle bronc riding: Ryder Wright won a deep event while reinforcing his place among the season’s leading contenders.
- Tie-down roping: Three-time reigning world champion Riley Webb added another major playoff victory.

- Bull riding: John Crimber topped the field while continuing an attention-grabbing rookie season.
Why the results matter now
The top four athletes from Puyallup in each event can move directly into the Governor’s Cup field. That makes the Washington playoff more than a lucrative stop—it is also one of the clearest paths into the final major event of the regular season.
For competitors already positioned for Las Vegas, Puyallup offered a chance to improve seeding and build confidence. For athletes near the NFR bubble, every dollar could determine whether the season continues at the Thomas & Mack Center in December.
Sioux Falls is the next measuring point
The Governor’s Cup will bring the qualified athletes and the remaining Playoff Series leaders together in Sioux Falls from September 25–27. Its semifinal-and-final format creates another compressed test, but the stakes will be even sharper with the October 1 regular-season finish immediately ahead.
Puyallup did not settle every race. It made the next one more urgent.
